Purchsaing Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for purchasing mill material steel shapes & plates and warehouse material as well as MRO supplies and repair expense items and some capital items at the best prices consistent with the specifications and requirements. The position assists the Vice President Engineering Services and Project Managers in evaluating supplier performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Procure steel shapes & plates, which meet the job specifications and requirements with delivery terms consistent with shop schedule which meets customer deliveries
• Negotiate cost effective purchases of supplies, equipment, machinery and services
• Prepare purchase orders and submit to suppliers in timely manner
• Obtain proper approval/signatures prior to procurement
• Develop and implement purchasing procedures
• Review requisitions for purchases and prepare purchase orders
• Track supplier performance and review results with suppliers to improve supplier performance
• Maintain integrated computerized purchasing and inventory control system.
• Assist in establishing project estimates
• Establish and develop good working relations with key suppliers
• Stay abreast of market and delivery conditions, especially steel industry
• Negotiate material price and terms
• Track supplier acknowledgements
• Prepare receiving report and valuation of inventory
• Manage inventory levels
• Approve invoices
• Manage test reports
