EHS Manager

SUMMARY Manage all activities relating to safety and environmental compliance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Safety

  • Create and implement workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Trains employees on safety requirements to ensure compliance with government and other regulations, as required.
  • Is responsible for the workers' compensation program including, submitting, and managing claims. Works with supervisors to get injured employees back to work.
  • Investigates all accidents to determine the root cause and provide recommendations that eliminate or reduce future hazards or risks. Prepares accident reports.
  • Creates job hazard assessments, recommends needed changes.
  • Conducts internal safety audits and identifies potential causes for injury. Recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
  • Coordinates training of employees on the operation of cranes, personnel lifts, forklifts, etc. to qualify for authorization and operation of the equipment.
  • Ensures proper use of permitting systems on site for compliance (i.e., hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/tagout) permits.
  • Responsible for implementing and managing the fire suppression and fire alarm equipment throughout the plant.
  • Compiles and keeps all required jobsite safety records, safety manuals, MSDS and accident forms that are required by contract, insurance companies and relevant governing agencies.
  • Prepares annual OSHA reports and provides to General Manager
  • Serves as Chairman for the monthly safety committee meeting; discusses safety topics, suggests solutions for issues, and research options for implementation.
  • Leads weekly safety toolbox talks with hourly staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Environmental Compliance

  • Overall environmental management responsibility for compliance with state and federal governing agencies.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures.
  • Monitors air and groundwater emissions per Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. Investigates any possible non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain air permits and all reporting necessary to remain compliant.
  • Monitor job site compliance with all MSDS hazardous communications compliance.
  • Conduct or directs testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of industrial experience, including experience in safety and training programs. In lieu of a degree, Safety Certification can be acceptable if accompanied with experience and abilities.
